The Louisville Zoo is a 135-acre animal park located in the city’s Poplar Level district. The State Zoo of Kentucky presently safeguards over 1,300 animals in naturalistic and combined animal surroundings, representing both geographical areas and habitats.
The Louisville Zoo features different geographic settings within the zoo:
The Glacier Run – this exhibit showcases California sea lions as well as a harbor seal. With 108,000 gallons of saltwater in the pool, the animals enjoy their time swimming, playing, and basking in their digs.
Wallaroo Walkabout – this new exhibit is one of the zoo’s most interactive zones, inviting visitors to follow a path that leads directly to the exhibit of wallabies and wallaroos, as well as some Australian birds.
Lorikeet Landing– enjoy a real nose-to-beak experience while you walk through this wonderful aviary, habituated by colorful and friendly birds that will eat nectars straight from your hand!
Gorilla Forest – this multi-featured exhibit will pull you into the world of gorillas, whether you are stopping at Hippo Falls or finding the gorillas in one of their three habitats.
Islands – this is the world’s first multi-species rotational exhibit that invites visitors to discover the concept of islands as ecological treasures.
There are also some “must see and do” activities at the zoo like the Zip Line and Climbing Wall, 4-D Ride Theatre, or the Sky Trail which is a three-storey adventure course with 22 elements. For a more comfortable sightseeing tour, the zoo has a ZooTram Shuttle which will take you to the different destinations in the zoo. And for water lovers, try the Calistoga Splash Park which is a water play area that has 42 unique ways for kids to get wet. These are just a part of what the Louisville Zoo can offer. There are actually a lot more.
